Implement Indigenous-Led Crisis Response Teams Across Ontario
Implement Indigenous-Led Crisis Response Teams Across Ontario
The Issue
Right now, Ontario is at a breaking point. Police violence, especially against Indigenous people, keeps making headlines, but nothing changes. In fact, the frequency of cases are growing each year, getting worse and worse, and it is not to be ignored.
To effectively address this alarming trend, we propose the implementation of Indigenous-led crisis response teams across the province. These teams would offer a vital alternative to current law enforcement approaches, providing respect and a second-opinion. Instead of sending armed officers to traumatize, we’d be sending people who understand Indigenous culture, trauma, and healing.
That’s why we’re calling on the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General and the Ontario Human Rights Commission to step up and support the creation of these teams. The goal isn’t to cut out all other services, but rather have Indigenous-led teams working with health care workers, mental health professionals, and community members, so people in crisis get real, compassionate help.
Indigenous communities in Canada are over-policed, under-protected, and let down by our justice system. Enough is enough. Sign the petition to support the creation of Indigenous-led crisis response teams, ensuring a safe, fair approach to emergency situations across Ontario, making our province safer for all.
After all, justice is not found with a badge and a baton.
Reconciliation: one signature at a time.
