Implement Gradual Speed Limit Reduction Signs on Highways for Safer Roads
समस्या
My friends and I have personally experienced the unfair and hazardous conditions resulting from sudden speed limit changes on our country's highways. Amidst these roads, an 80 km/hr speed sign can abruptly transition to 60 km/hr without adequate warning. This sudden deceleration not only results in unwarranted penalisation for motorists but also raises safety concerns. One of my friends, in an attempt to align with this sudden speed change, was rear-ended, setting off a domino effect that impacted cars behind him.
These appear to be situational traps rather than attempts at ensuring road safety. Hence, we are pushing for systematic changes. Highway design should incorporate signs of reducing speed limits every few meters, transitioning smoothly from 80 to 60 km/hr. Additionally, a leeway of 10% above the speed limit should be allowed to account for necessary adjustments in speed, creating a safer and more forgiving environment for motorists.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's report indicates that speed limit enforcement plays a critical role in preventing accidents, provided it is effectively managed, ethical, and designed around safety rather than penalty.
Join us in making the roads safer for everyone. If the speed limit must be enforced, let's insist that it is enforced sensibly - with fair warning and kindness. Don't let road safety be a game of penalties but a path to safer journeys for all. Please sign this petition today, for safer and fairer highways for all.
