Implement Excused Mental Health Days in Union Rxi School District

The Issue

As a student within the Union Rxi school district, I face significant mental health challenges, and with the stringent current regulations, if I miss 6 more days, my parents could potentially face legal issues. This is a predicament faced by countless other students in our district. It is essential to consider mental health as a legitimate reason for absences.

The present policy does not account for the fact that 1 in 6 U.S. youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Anxiety, depression, and other mental health disorders are real and affect a significant number of students every day. They are as important, if not more than physical illnesses, as they can render a child unable to participate effectively in school activities.

We are, therefore, calling on the administration to reform the existing policy and make provisions for up to 10 excused absences per year for mental health days for all students in the Union Rxi school district. This action is not just necessary; it is essential for the wellbeing of all the students enrolled.

Stand with us as we fight for this change. By signing this petition, you are supporting a more inclusive, understanding, and nurturing school environment that acknowledges the importance of mental health. Your signature counts towards validating the challenges numerous students face and alleviating the stress that is associated with potential legal consequences for parents. Please, sign this petition and put a step forward towards more compassionate education system.
