I am a citizen deeply troubled by the increasing number of rape incidents in my country. Rapes in India have become an appalling epidemic; it is not just a crime but a violation of a person's fundamental rights. We believe that stricter punishments like the death sentence will impose a significant deterrent effect.

THE NEW LAW STATES THAT 

Whoever commits rape shall be punished with rigorous imprisonment of not less than 10 years, but which may extend to imprisonment for life, and shall also be liable to fine.

* For gang rape, there is a provision for punishment of 20 years imprisonment or life in jail.

* Sexual exploitation of women on the pretext of marriage, job, promotions or by hiding identity will be considered a crime

Why is there no DEATH SENTENCE FOR RAPE?

In 2018, reports highlighted that a woman is raped every 20 minutes in India. The situation has worsened, with increases seen in the following years; the majority of these culprits evade the justice system or receive mild punishment. Our sentencing policy must reflect the severity of this crime, the violation it represents, and the grave danger it imposes on our society's peace and safety.

Currently, India reserves the death penalty for the most heinous crimes, but it's high time we regard rape as such, given its drastic increase and the untold trauma it inflicts on victims. By advocating for the death sentence, we're seeking justice for countless victims who've had their lives irrevocably altered by these horrendous acts.
