I am a concerned citizen of Medina, OH, USA. The safety of our children is paramount and should be prioritized above all else. However, the reality we face today is that many children are forced to walk to school due to their parents' or guardians' work schedules. This situation increases the risk of accidents, as we tragically experienced on March 19, 2024.

In light of this incident and the ongoing risks faced by our young pedestrians, it is crucial that we take immediate action to ensure their safety during school hours. We propose the implementation of crossing guards in Medina Public Square during these times.

Crossing guards play an essential role in maintaining child pedestrian safety. According to Safe Kids Worldwide, student pedestrian injuries decrease by up to 44% when crossing guards are present at intersections near schools (Safe Kids Worldwide). By implementing crossing guards at Medina Public Square during school hours, we can significantly reduce the risk faced by our children every day.
