Pembrokeshire County Council currently faces a crucial problem related to the Cleddau Bridge and its neighboring smaller crossing. These bridges have been the location of numerous incidents, often involving individuals attempting to jump off. It is therefore urgent and necessary that the council acts promptly and proactively to enhance the safety measures that needs to be in place ASAP. The council needs to either install extreme safety protection measures or erect higher fences to prevent people from accessing the wrong side of the bridges. The lives of our residents and visitors are at stake, and it is vital that a tragedy be prevented before it occurs again. Research has shown that barriers and safety nets dramatically reduce incidence rates at similar locations (source: World Health Organization). This petition calls for immediate action by the Pembrokeshire County Council. It is a plea for safety, a plea for communal well-being, and a plea to ensure the longevity of our beloved bridges. We stand together in asking for these enhancements and recognitions of human value in our infrastructure design. A few local news reporters have stated previously that safety measures needs to be in place, but it seems that the council haven't taken this as seriously as we thought they would of.
