Living in Gaza for the past 14 months has been a harrowing experience. Continuous conflicts have left us, the civilians of Gaza, in a precarious state, losing our homes, our livelihoods, and living in constant fear for our lives and those of our loved ones. A war zone is no place for families to reside.

The United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports that more than 27,000 homes in Gaza have been demolished or severely damaged. Each of these statistics represents a family, like mine, who have been unwillingly and unexpectedly made homeless. Lives are being dramatically altered and ended; dreams are being shattered.

We urgently implore our leaders and international bodies to assist in implementing an immediate ceasefire. In addition, we require the establishment of safe corridors to evacuate and rescue civilians who are stuck in the line of fire. We can no longer afford to stand by while our basic human rights are violated.

This is the Gaza we are enduring. This is our lived reality. We rise to call upon the world to recognize the urgency of our situation, to take action and to help us restore peace.
