We are deeply affected by the tragic loss of Grace Bentkowski, a young and promising journalist whose life was abruptly ended due to inadequate safety protocols at two train stations: Hegewisch Station in Illinois and Hammond Station in Indiana, both on the South Shore Line. This tragedy, as well as previous deaths, could have been avoided with thorough safety checks and improved safeguards in place. We are pleading for an immediate review and significant upgrade of safety measures at these stations to protect the lives of daily commuters, in honor of Grace and in a determined effort to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
