I write this today as an individual deeply impacted by the unfortunate incident involving inappropriate action and inhuman treatment dealt to a Fauji daughter and a serving Army officer by junior police officers. I am appalled by the senior police officers' response, sweeping blatant violations of laws under the rug. We need a change, a massive overhaul in our policing system. Let’s steer away from viewing all civilians as potential criminals and start recognizing everyone's rights and dignity.

The restructuring will begin with the implementation of Agniveer as the basic Qualification Requirement (QR) for all police jobs – from the state police to the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and from constables to UPSC-affiliated Indian Police Service (IPS) jobs. The country deserves a police force that is emphatically more disciplined toward its citizens.

Agniveer's qualifications, rigor, and ethics will help build a police force that respects all uniformed services, not just its own. The bonhomie spirit towards the citizenry will create lasting trust, enabling better community-police relationships. This improvement can foster a safer environment, as per studies indicating that strong community-police relationships reduce crime rates [source: National Academy of Sciences].

It is high time we implemented this change, not just for ourselves, but for future generations. To protect the innocent and uphold the law, we need a police force that does its duty with compassion, professionalism, and utmost respect for all citizens.
