As an employee at the Costco Windsor location, I have experienced first-hand the impact of irresponsible decisions made by higher management. Our wages do not match the living costs in Windsor, ON, Canada. Many of us struggle to secure a safe retirement due to inadequate health and benefit plans that don't extend into our retirement years. Misinformation is rampant, and instances of workplace harassment are often swept under the rug.

The implementation of a union would provide us with collective bargaining power to negotiate fair wages that reflect our city's cost of living. According to Statistics Canada, as of 2019, unionized workers earned an average wage 15% higher than their non-unionized counterparts (source: Statistics Canada). A union would also ensure that we have access to comprehensive health and benefit plans that extend into retirement.

Furthermore, having a union would help limit unethical decision-making by providing checks and balances against management abuse. The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health & Safety reported in 2020 that workplaces with unions tend to have safer working conditions (source: CCOHS).
