The cost to save his life? $5600. A cost so astronomical, crippling genuine pet owners like myself from providing the necessary care led to a heart-wrenching decision: having Thomas euthanized.

However, this is not an isolated incident. Many pet owners across the country face similar situations. A 2018 study by the American Veterinary Medical Association reported that approximately 27% of US households experienced barriers to veterinary services in the past two years because of financial restrictions.
