Driven by the personal experience of my own child, who became a victim of grooming on Discord, I am urging everyone to take a stand and make a change. My child, young and naive, was exploited by several men across the UK and other countries using the platform as their hunting ground. Discord has grown over the years into an open community with more than 250 million registered users [source: Discord]. However, it's alarming to note that the platform lacks essential safety measures to protect its underage users. In fact, a large adult user base is engaging with children on chat rooms daily, putting many of them at the risk of exposure to inappropriate behavior, offensive language, or even predation. This concern is further substantiated by a study showing that 27% of online sexual exploitation incidents involved communication applications such as Discord [source: Internet Watch Foundation]. It's time to address this glaring loophole and enforce an age restriction of 18+ for Discord users. This change will safeguard children, ensure user safety, and contribute towards a safer, more respectful online environment.
