Implement a Flat Social Security Benefit and Universal Basic Income for All Americans

The Issue

My name is an anonymous low-income disabled American. My personal journey has been marred by harmful practices such as ageism, ableism, and other forms of discrimination within the workforce. I have experienced the indignation of losing employment and the frustration of being unable to maintain a stable job due to these unfair practices. I am not alone. This plight reverberates across numerous homes in America, spiraling many into a vicious cycle of poverty.

It is in the light of such significant social issues that I am calling for a flat Social Security benefit and Universal Basic Income for all Americans. This policy change will play a crucial role in uplifting the marginalized, those affected by job discrimination, and those on the brink of poverty, ensuring a baseline level of financial security for all.

Currently, the rate of poverty in the United States is approximately 10.5% – this translates to 34 million people living in poverty (Source: Census Bureau). The implementation of a universal basic income would not only uplift these individuals, but also enhance the nation's economy by increasing the purchasing power of the general population.

Moreover, a flat Social Security benefit will provide necessary support to those who, for one reason or another, could not save enough during their working years. It is estimated that about half of households are "at risk" of not having enough to maintain their living standards in retirement (Source: Center for Retirement Research at Boston College).

For these reasons and more, and based on the shared experiences of many, I implore all like-minded citizens, NGOs, and policymakers to rally behind this cause. Together, we can secure economic stability for all American citizens and build a better, more inclusive society. Your signature is crucial in turning this important vision into reality. Please sign and share this petition as widely as possible.
