The Issue

The Problem

Our current work structure in Trinidad and Tobago—centered around the traditional 5-day week—is increasingly outdated. Employees face hours of daily traffic congestion, rising transportation costs, and high levels of workplace burnout. This model is no longer serving our best interests; it is limiting our potential for innovation and harming our quality of life.

The Solution

We are calling on the Ministry of Labour and local private sector leaders to initiate a national pilot program for a 4-day work week (100% pay, 80% time, 100% productivity). This is not about working less; it is about working smarter.

Why This Works for T&T

Reduced Commuting Stress: By cutting one full day of travel, we can significantly reduce the massive traffic bottlenecks that stifle our economy and increase stress levels for thousands of workers.

Boosted Productivity: Global trials have shown that when employees are well-rested, engagement and efficiency skyrocket. A refreshed workforce is a more productive one.

Operational Efficiency: For the private sector, this is an opportunity to lower overhead costs (energy consumption, facility maintenance) and become a more attractive employer to top talent in a competitive market.

Better Health & Family Time: A 3-day weekend allows for meaningful personal time, reducing healthcare burdens and strengthening family units.

Our Goal

We are asking for a structured trial period in select government departments and a collaborative framework to encourage private businesses to experiment with flexible scheduling. It’s time for Trinidad and Tobago to prioritize modern, data-driven work practices that benefit both employers and employees.
