Implement a 2.5% Rent Cap and Lower Housing Prices Across Canada

The Issue

As a former homeless person, I'm intimately familiar with the struggles of poverty and the harsh realities of homelessness. I have seen, firsthand, the desperation and hopelessness of many Canadians who are unable to secure safe, decent and affordable housing. It's a humanitarian issue crying out for urgent action. Today, Canada is in the grip of a housing and homelessness crisis. Over 235,000 Canadians experience homelessness in a year, and approximately 1.7 million households are in 'core housing need'. (Statistics Canada).

In light of these alarming realities, this petition seeks to require the government to implement a fixed 2.5% cap on rent across the entire nation to help prevent further homelessness. Secondly, the petition calls for a concrete and active housing recovery plan outlining strategies to lower Canada's gargantuan housing prices.

Lastly, as we navigate these challenging economic times, this petition demands for a temporary 50% cut in Canada's overall foreign spending, until every citizen in this country has a roof over their heads. Our citizens should be our first priority. It is our collective responsibility to ensure the basic human right of shelter is available to all Canadians.

Join me in signing this urgent plea and let us require the government to make substantial changes to better the circumstances of struggling Canadians. Sign the petition today. Let's create change together.
