The Issue

I recently visited Sea Grill in Uptown Charlotte inside the Queen City Quarter and was shocked to find parking in their garage (run by Preferred Parking ) would cost me $18. It felt unfair to pay such a steep price for parking while trying to support local businesses in Queen City Quarter, formerly known as the Epicenter. This experience isn't just frustrating for me but for many patrons who want to enjoy the vibrant scene here.

The current situation is deterring both locals and visitors from frequenting the area. What was once a bustling hub is now struggling because parking fees are turning potential customers away. Local businesses, offering unique dining and shopping experiences, are finding it increasingly difficult to attract and retain clientele. This isn't due to a lack of interest in their offerings, but because of prohibitive parking costs.

One very realistic solution is to implement a 2-hour parking validation for shoppers and diners. This approach encourages people to come, enjoy, and spend their time and money at the establishments without worrying about the cost of parking. Other shopping districts across the country have successfully adopted similar validation schemes, providing a model that can be tailored to fit Queen City Quarter.

The changes in parking policy would not require drastic infrastructural adjustments or hefty investments, making this a feasible and actionable initiative. By offering 2-hour parking validation with any purchase, we address a significant barrier hindering the flow of commerce in Queen City Quarter.

It's time for Queen City Quarter to make parking more accessible and support the businesses that contribute to Charlotte's unique culture and economy. Join me in this effort to improve our community by signing this petition.
