Renewable Energy For Silwood Park Campus

Renewable Energy For Silwood Park Campus
The Issue
Silwood park is situated in the middle of 100 ha of forest, and is home to several environmentally-focussed post-graduate courses. With this in mind, you would expect the campus to be a vision of sustainability. Unfortunately, this is not the case.
We recognise that as a Natural Science campus of one of the top science and technology universities in the world, as well as an influential member of our local community in Berkshire, we have an opportunity to improve our community, practice our values, AND encourage others to do the same!
We believe that we should be able to continue our studies in a sustainable/non-damaging way by reducing our reliance on electricity from carbon-emitting sources. In the light of the recent IPCC report, changes such as those to renewable energy sources need to happen NOW.
We have three requests:
- To have renewable energy sources on campus which can supply the campus and potentially the wider community.
- In the interim, and to supplement this, we want our electricity to come from a provider who supplies renewable energy.
- To be able to control the heating and cooling of the buildings on campus, in order to provide a more efficient use of energy and a comfortable environment to work in (currently it is managed by South Kensington, not us, and isn't appropriate).
