Gedo Is on the Brink — We Must Act Now

We, the undersigned, raise the alarm over a looming catastrophe in Somalia’s Gedo Region.

Credible reports confirm a coordinated military escalation by both the Federal Government of Somalia and the Jubbaland authorities, led by Ahmed Madobe. Thousands of clan-based troops and militias are being deployed into Gedo in a reckless campaign of domination—with innocent civilians directly in the crosshairs.

This is not security. This is an invasion.

Unless stopped immediately, this buildup will result in:

Mass killings
Ethnic-based violence
Widespread displacement
Collapse of communities
Regional destabilization
Gedo’s people are unarmed and outnumbered yet determined to defend their homes.
They cannot face two converging armies alone.

 
We call on the international community to act—urgently:

Stop all military deployments into Gedo.
Condemn violent occupation and domination.
Sanction those responsible for inciting or carrying out attacks.
Deploy international observers and peace monitors.
Protect civilians under international law.
Push for dialogue—before bloodshed begins.
 
This is a war in the making.
