My wife and I are part of the many retired citizens living on fixed incomes in this country, watching nervously as the economy travels down a slippery slope towards recession. The actions we are currently witnessing deeply concern us, as they appear to endanger our nation's very framework of democracy.

Our concerns are primarily twofold: the actions of President Donald Trump, who openly backs policies allowing individuals who were not born in the U.S. to hold significant influence in the dismantling of our democratic government. Specifically, an immigrant from South Africa, who we believe should not be allowed to possess such a stronghold. We see this as a strong threat to our democratic institutions. 

Secondly, the economic policies implemented under the Trump administration. They have, to date, culminated in the rapid progression towards a crippling recession that will facilitate the ever widening wealth gap in this country, and force more people into poverty and homelessness. His insistence upon terminating tens of thousands of loyal government employees to free up money for tax breaks for his billionaire cohorts is nothing short of insanity.

Additionally, President Trump's approach to international relations is deeply worrying. The clear trend towards alienating our longtime allies is contrary to the values of collaboration and unity that have long formed the bedrock of our foreign policy. Good international relations require a solid understanding and respect for diplomacy, something that we find lacking in the current president.

We firmly believe that these actions contravene the promise of the office of the presidency, a promise to serve and safeguard the citizens of this great country. Thus, a call for impeachment isn't just necessary but obligatory. We don't make this call lightly, understanding the grave consequences it carries, but the path we're currently traversing makes it a necessity.
