Immediately stop Israeli crimes in Gaza and Lebanon
The Issue
O you who have believed, stand firm in justice and bear witness to God, even if it is against yourselves.
Your Excellency, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. António Guterres,
With greetings and respect,
We, the faculty members of the universities of Shahroud city, Iran, write this letter to you with deep concern for the critical and humanitarian situation in Gaza and Lebanon. The continuous and relentless attacks on residential areas, vital infrastructure, and even refugee camps have resulted in the killing and wounding of tens of thousands of innocent people, especially women and children, and the displacement of about 2 million residents of the strip. According to reliable reports, in the past 14 months since the start of the war in Gaza, about 45,000 people have been martyred and 110,000 injured, of which about 70% were women and children. Unfortunately, a similar situation has occurred in Lebanon, and several million Lebanese have been displaced following the brutal attacks of Zionist warplanes that do not abide by any law. These statistics indicate the depth of the humanitarian disaster that has occurred in these areas.
The United Nations was formed after the end of World War II with the aim of preventing future wars and maintaining international peace and security. Now the important question is, why is this organization not taking effective action to stop the Israeli war machine? Is Israel an exception to international law?
We, Iranian academics, while strongly condemning the actions of the criminal Zionist gang, call on you, as the Secretary-General of the United Nations, to use all the capacities of this organization to take immediate and effective measures to stop the barbarity of this child-killing regime and end this unequal war. We also call on you to form independent fact-finding committees to investigate and document war crimes and human rights violations in these regions and bring the perpetrators of these crimes to justice.
And the wrongdoers will soon know at what goal they will end up.
