PETITION TO REVERSE THE TRADE OF LUKA DONČIĆ AND CALL FOR AN INVESTIGATION INTO NICO HARRISON

To: Dallas Mavericks Ownership & NBA Commissioner Adam Silver
From: Concerned Fans & Supporters of the Dallas Mavericks

We Demand the Immediate Reversal of Luka Dončić's Trade and an Investigation into Nico Harrison

We, the undersigned, as lifelong fans and supporters of the Dallas Mavericks, demand the immediate reversal of the reckless and unjustifiable trade of Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers and a formal investigation into General Manager Nico Harrison’s handling of this catastrophic decision. This trade is nothing short of malpractice and has shaken the Mavericks community to its core.

Reasons for This Petition

1. Trading a Generational Talent for an Inadequate Return

Luka Dončić is 25 years old, a five-time All-NBA First Team member, and has finished in the top five of MVP voting multiple times. He has led the Mavericks to the NBA Finals and has proven, time and time again, to be one of the most dominant players in league history. Trading Luka Dončić, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris to the Lakers for Anthony Davis (a soon-to-be 32-year-old with a history of injuries), Max Christie, and a single 2029 first-round pick is indefensible.

For context, the Utah Jazz received four first-round picks, one first-round pick-swap and five players for Rudy Gobert—a defensive specialist, not a franchise cornerstone. That the Mavericks received such a pitiful return for a once-in-a-generation player is beyond negligence; it is outright sabotage.

2. Lack of Transparency and Due Diligence

Head coach Jason Kidd had no knowledge of the trade until after it was completed. How does a front office make such a monumental decision without consulting the coaching staff, the franchise player, or even the fanbase that has invested years of unwavering support?

It is also evident that Harrison did not properly explore the trade market for Dončić, failing to initiate a competitive bidding war. Instead, he moved in secrecy, ensuring that the return would be unacceptably low. This is a gross dereliction of duty that requires immediate scrutiny by the NBA.

Furthermore, Mark Cuban, a 27% stakeholder, once stated that he "would rather divorce his wife" than allow Luka Dončić to be traded. Mark Cuban has confirmed that he was not involved in this decision. This raises serious concerns about who in the Mavericks' leadership truly made this call and whether the trade was executed in the best interest of the franchise and its fanbase.

3. The Mavericks’ Ownership Betrayed the Fanbase and Community

Luka Dončić recently became a father, a deeply personal milestone in his life. He has expressed nothing but Love for Dallas, calling it his second home. Yet, instead of honoring that loyalty, the organization discarded him with no legitimate justification.

Basketball is more than just a game. It is about having fun, practicing Love, developing a community and coming together as One. Winning is a natural byproduct of these things, not the other way around. The Mavericks’ leadership failed to recognize this fundamental truth, betraying their players and the fans who have poured their hearts into this team.

4. Nico Harrison’s Track Record of Controversial Decisions

Since joining the Mavericks, Harrison has made high-risk moves with mixed results. Some were successful, but none have been as reckless and unjustifiable as this trade. His rationale that Luka was a "defensive liability" or had "conditioning concerns" is completely irrelevant when dealing with an all-time great, generational talent.

Furthermore, his statement that this move was made to "avoid a tumultuous summer" is unacceptable. Nico Harrison said, "when we win, I think the frustration will go away," which is based on a principle that is simply not true. Winning does not take priority over Love. Basketball at its core is about Love, loyalty, community, family, and fun—winning is a byproduct of these values. The job of a general manager is to make decisions that benefit the franchise, this decision was made in complete disregard to the very Heart of the team and its fans.

Our Demands

1. Immediate Reversal of the Trade

  • The Mavericks must work with the NBA and the Los Angeles Lakers to reverse the trade and bring Luka Dončić, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris back to Dallas.

2. Independent Investigation into Nico Harrison

  • The NBA must conduct a formal investigation into whether Harrison acted in the best interest of the franchise and whether he had external pressures or conflicts of interest that influenced his decision-making.

3. Accountability for All Decision-Makers

  • Nico Harrison must immediately resign as GM or be removed by Mavericks leadership. His continued presence is a threat to the team’s identity and long-term success. He has repeatedly demonstrated a lack of understanding of the Mavericks community, fan base, and the core values that define this franchise. During the post-trade press conference, Harrison implied that Luka Dončić—one of the greatest players in franchise history—does not "fit our culture."

This is an unacceptable and reckless statement from a GM whose job is to build around a generational superstar, not alienate him. Luka embodies everything Mavericks fans Love: passion, skill, loyalty, fun and an unmatched competitive spirit. If anyone doesn’t fit the Mavericks’ culture, it’s Harrison himself.

  • All individuals who approved this trade must take a hard look in the mirror and ask themselves: Are we operating from a place of Love, or are we making decisions that betray our own community? If it is the latter, then those individuals must step down or take the necessary steps to realign their values, prioritizing a commitment to Love, loyalty, community, family, and fun.

4. Restoration of Trust with Mavericks Fans

  • The franchise must take immediate steps to repair the trust it has broken with its fans. This includes transparency in decision-making, a public apology, and a franchise-wide commitment to prioritizing Love, loyalty, community, family, and fun—understanding that winning is a natural byproduct of these values.

Final Message to Mavericks Ownership

We are a family. We come to games and support our team because we Love them. Loyalty matters. Luka Dončić embraced this city and gave everything to this team, and he deserved that same loyalty in return. You have betrayed him and us.

The Mavericks have long prided themselves on loyalty—so much so that Dirk Nowitzki’s statue proclaims, "Loyalty Never Fades Away." This trade suggests that loyalty no longer matters to those in charge.

The Mavericks may win future championships with this new roster, but it will never be enough to restore faith in our community simply because the heart of our team—the player we built our identity around—was cast aside unjustly.

If you truly believe that winning has priority over Love, loyalty, community, family, and fun, then you do not understand the game of basketball at its core. Winning is a byproduct of these values, not the other way around. For Harrison to say, "when we win, I believe the frustration will go away" reveals a deep misunderstanding of the magnitude of betrayal that has occurred. Winning without Love is meaningless. A community without loyalty is nothing.

The only path forward is to reverse this disgraceful trade and to hold those responsible fully accountable.

Sign this petition if you agree. Let your voice be heard. Demand justice for Luka. Demand Love, loyalty and integrity for the Dallas Mavericks.
