IMMEDIATE REMOVAL OF DISTRICT 227 LEADERSHIP

The Issue

We, the undersigned staff, families, and community members, are calling for the immediate removal of current District 227 leadership (Board President Andrea Bonds and Superintendent Dr. Johnnie Thomas) and any responsible Board officials whose actions and oversight failures have eroded trust and safety within the district.

Serious concerns have been raised regarding workplace harassment, intimidation, retaliation, wrongful termination, women’s rights violations, Open Meetings Act violations, SPED violations, misuse of funds, conflicts of interest, and failures in oversight from the Board President. Additional concerns include the Superintendent’s multiple documented domestic battery arrests spanning approximately 26 years and involving a number of different women, including an active Order of Protection against him for a 2024 domestic battery. Reports of his alleged gang affiliation have further heightened fear and concern among staff and members of the community.

Staff report feeling unsafe, living in fear of termination if they speak out, and being subjected to leadership by individuals with documented histories of abusive behavior against women. These circumstances have contributed to declining staff morale, fear of retaliation, lack of trust, and a significant loss of confidence among employees, families, and community stakeholders.

Our school community deserves leadership that demonstrates integrity, transparency, safety, and accountability.
