Petition updateIMAX: Cancel Your Presentation of Runway's AI Film Festival! They're listening... now, we just have to make sure they never do it again.

Hey.

Sorry if it's been a while, but, in a way, I kind of have some good news - and it's weird that I didn't post this sooner.

The top brass at IMAX admitted they went too far, even if not directly.

In a recent article touting the loyal fanbase of the IMAX format on The Ringer and the insane lengths they'll go to in order to prove their devotion, CEO Richard Gelfond was mentioned as noting this:

"For his part, Gelfond says his focus remains on putting the audience first, and he says he’s turned down other AI partnerships that were premised on cutting corners."

While it still hurts to have seen them short change many of their loyal followers by partnering with Runway, it's clear that the frustrations of many devoted cinephiles - including those that have signed this petition - have been heard in some form.

Now, we have to make sure they never do anything this short sighted ever again.

While I am no longer encouraging a boycott of their theatres or the format, I still believe that spreading this petition is necessary.

Having returned to see films in the format again starting with last month's One Battle After Another, I can attest that there is a certain beauty to seeing films presented to their fullest potential (well, depending on how their directors intended for them to be seen in particular). I don't want to have to trade that ever again for what is essentially the pillaging and destruction of art with a human touch.

Thanks again,

Nathan
