When an individual is a victim of a crime the next of kin should be notified by the investigating agency within 24-48 hours of identification.

Personal story
My name is Timothy Kern of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, born and raised in Chicago, Illinois.

On November 30, 2018, Jeffery Flowers was robbed and murdered in the City of Chicago, Illinois. The Chicago Police Department identified my brother by fingerprinting him at the morgue. Chicago Police Department never notified next of kin when Jeffery Flowers was known to them. Public Records contain Jeffery Flowers relatives. Jeffery Flowers has social media accounts with his family visibly present.

Family was notified of my brother death by the suspects who robbed and murdered him. On December 8, 2018, my brother daughter was contacted on Facebook by the suspect informing her that her father was at the Cook County Illinois morgue. Receiving this notification devastated the family and what is more devastating is the fact that the Chicago Police Department still has not contacted the family as of the time of this petition some 12 days later.
