IGA: Keep your Promise to Stop Animal Abuse
The Issue
IGA, Inc. is a grocery store chain with locations all over the world, and they are headquartered in my home state of Illinois.
I used to be a customer of IGA, and I was proud that they made a commitment to sell only cage-free eggs in their stores by 2025. However, I am disappointed and concerned that IGA has offered no progress updates on this commitment.
Why is this commitment important? On factory farms, eggs are produced by female chickens, who typically live in battery cages. Battery cages are notorious for their inhumane living conditions, with 4-10 hens crammed into small, restrictive spaces that prevent them from engaging in natural behaviors. These hens will spend nearly their entire life with less floor space than the area of an iPad screen. These living conditions lead to stress, aggression, and many health issues.
IGA has already acknowledged these practices are inherently cruel. That's why they made a cage-free commitment many years ago. However, if IGA's leadership is serious about this goal, why are they refusing to share any progress? I am asking IGA to publicly share annual progress on its promise to go 100% cage-free by 2025.
Please sign my petition and let IGA know they cannot profit off of empty promises.
