The Issue

As an experienced professional in the field of temporary works, I have spent 15 years dedicated to ensuring the efficient execution and successful delivery of numerous construction projects. Temporary works, though being critical in successful delivery of construction projects, is not included as an area of technical expertise by The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) at Professional Review. The experience and industry-specific knowledge that temporary works professionals possess should be recognised at Review by the ICE.

Acknowledging it as an area of technical expertise in the ICE Professional Review process can indirectly raise industry standards and improve safety on sites.

The elevation of temporary works to this status would not just validate the expertise of temporary works professionals who have dedicated much of their careers to this area, but also ensure better construction outcomes by training, certifying, and recognising its importance in the industry.

I urge the ICE to further recognise the value of temporary works and its contribution to the construction industry.

Please sign this petition to support the inclusion of Temporary Works in the list of specialist areas recognised by ICE during its Professional Review.

UPDATE 06/02/25

Great news! I have been in contact with a senior representative from the ICE who will raise the issue formally with the Professional Review Panel. It’s great that the ICE continue to listen and engage with its members to improve its processes. Further updates will follow.
