Dear Friends,
Almost 15,000 people have signed our petition telling Facebook that “Fat is Not a Feeling”. Thanks to your support, Glamour, The Washington Post, Cosmopolitan, and dozens of other news outlets around the world have covered our campaign.
Our petition is one of eight campaigns started by young women from around the world who are working with Endangered Bodies to get our message to Facebook. Our experiences may differ but we have all struggled with loving our bodies and being healthy in the face of harmful messages like the “Fat” emoticon.
#FatisNotaFeeling truly is an international movement. Inkeri, from Germany, joined the campaign because she struggled as a child to navigate all of society’s negative messages about weight and dieting. Mizheel from Mexico is on board because those same harmful ideas about body size made her go on an extreme, dangerous diet when she was just 12 years old. Daniela, who lives in Brazil, started her campaign because she is a survivor of bulimia and she doesn’t want other young women to go down the same road.
We know there are thousands of other people around the world who have had experiences such as these and agree that “Fat” is not a feeling. While Facebook haven’t responded yet, we are confident that if we continue to make our voices heard, they will. Please help us by sharing the campaign on Facebook to make a small but decisive step in overcoming the body shaming that our society promotes: change.org/fatisnotafeelingUK
Thanks again for your support and Happy International Women’s Day!
Charlotte and Vicky
