Status Update from the MHSAA: The Track and Field committee will vote on whether or not to make the adaptive category permanent during their January 2024 meeting. They are looking at what "enhancements" to the existing policy they will include, based on member schools and conferences feedback. NOW is the time to encourage your school and conference to send letters of support! Remember, we are asking for the following four things from the MHSAA:
1. That the category be made permanent.
2. That the category be expanded to include an ambulatory division for students with physical disabilities (e.g. amputation, hemiplegia, etc.)
3. That team members in the adaptive category are allowed to score points for their team.
4. That any event available to traditional team members also be open to adaptive team members.
These four items are CRUCIAL in ensuring that middle and high schoolers with physical disabilities are treated as full and equal members of their team.
We can do this Michigan! We can do this for our kids!
