Ms. Velat and other para-athletes across Michigan should have the option and ability to participate and compete in sports alongside other athletes within their school district as equal members of the team. I have read the proposal set out by Ms. Velat and the Houghton Portage Township Athletic Department, and it is clear they have done the research to create a thorough proposal to include adaptive sports as a category through the MHSAA in a way that allows para-athletes to contribute to their school district’s successes.
