Remove the statue of former Ethiopian emperor from the AU
Remove the statue of former Ethiopian emperor from the AU
The Issue
Last Sunday, the statue of the former Ethiopian emperor was unveiled at the African Union compound, found in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It's said by some of the leaders of African countries at the event that, the emperor had a great impact in the foundation of the Union.
Although such respect might be due to him, he was too responsible for the crimes he committed during his stay in power. He has killed many innocent people including children and women. He had committed mass genocide and brought much chaos into the region.
So, if AU is giving credit to his contributions now, then they must also accuse him of his crimes too. Because the crime he committed can never be ignored and forgotten.
So, AU must respect the voice of the people to those the crime has been committed upon. AU must see all African people equally. Hence, the statue of emperor Haile Selassie unveiled last Sunday must be removed immediately.
