On Friday 8/20/2021, students from Salinas High  had taken a baby doll which was a black baby and they used this doll as a way to spread hate towards poc. They stepped on the doll and they were seen running the doll over and mistreating the doll as a way to spread hatred towards the black community. People at the Jamboree have said they heard the students using racist slurs and remarks to degrade the hispanics and poc at the jamboree. A student has spoken up about how the principal herself made racist comments when she saw Hispanic students wrapping ribbon around a railing for Alisal students. The principal said , “Is this the boarder wall separating us”. The principal herself is a white person so these insensitive comments coming from her shocked the Alisal students. There was also a player from  who got injured during the game and none of the players from kneeled down out of respect. There have also been a lot of stories from other people saying they’ve experienced racism at the school.

The students from continued to yell slurs at students and there was a student making racist remarks to the Alisal Cheer Coach and the staff from Salinas High did nothing. The school has done nothing to address the situation and instead of saying anything they’ve turned off the comments on their cheer instagram account to avoid getting any more exposure for the racism that has been happening.  Schools are supposed to be a safe place for students to learn academically and respect should be taught. Students cannot learn and be in a safe environment if they’re surrounded by people who will spread hate towards them because of their skin color. Now more than ever is the time to step up for change. The school should address the situation and the ASB students involved should get some sort of punishment.
