Just an overview-style update for you, since nothing has been said for weeks. I apologize for not getting the time to respond until now.
Essentially, it may seem like HTC is [once again] abandoning the whole idea. Users of the HTC One XL have already started receiving their official updates, so there are no excuses for an update to the MSM8260A (the 'A' is important!) and MSM8960 versions of the HTC One S.
Furthermore, MSM8260 (no 'A'!) users should also be in with a chance of an update, since HTC has released their HTC Desire 500, equipped with a quad-core Cortex-A7 processor running at 1.20 GHz. Although it may sound very powerful, it's nothing compared to ANY model of the HTC One S, and yet that appears to have up-to-date software.
The original gist was that HTC would release an update to Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5.0 via its developer website (link below), and not by an over-the-air (OTA) update. http://htcdev.com
It's now September. STILL, nothing exists...
