Howell, NJ Residents Against Overdevelopment

Dear Howell Council,

As residents who support both the true concept of Affordable Housing and the rural nature of Howell Township equally, we urge you NOT to approve any affordable housing projects until a court decision is made as to how many units we are required or our lawmakers establish the legal framework that sets a formula for the required units.

We hope you will:

●Provide complete transparency with regards to all proposed Affordable Housing that is presented to Howell Township for review.

●Guarantee an avenue for all residents/taxpayers to give input into ALL Affordable Housing Projects prior to any approvals. Currently, the interests of builders, developers and campaign donors are being considered, but not those of the individuals who currently reside in Howell. The taxpayers will be impacted financially by large scale building for years to come.

●Act to protect both current residents of Howell Township and the intended beneficiaries of Affordable Housing from the current misuse of the Mt Laurel decision by developers. Their current ability to overturn local land use planning to build high-density sprawl will harm the interests of both current residents and the people Mt. Laurel intended to aid.

●Recognize the danger that overdevelopment of Howell will have on future generations. Howell voters have indicated time and again through Open Space referendums their desire to preserve the rural nature of our state and our town. The current proposed Affordable Housing Projects and the extraneous building that will accompany it, if allowed to go forward, will irrevocably destroy Howell's green space and make the whole town far more urban in nature.

Please stand with the people of Howell Township and fight for the policies we need to protect our town from a massive overdevelopment onslaught.  There is NO reason to move forward with ANY project until we have the proper numbers to make these decisions.  Stand with us to protect our town and lets work together to make decisions that will have the least amount of impact on our rural character, taxes and home values.  Your decision on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 council meeting will tell us if you side with us the residents or with them the builders and developers.

Thank You!
