A growing number of our neighbors are using bicycles to travel to work, doctors, restaurants, groceries and other daily tasks. The City of Punta Gorda, along with other organizations and many bicycle riders have laid out a minimum bicycle infrastructure to provide a convenient and practical method of integrating bicycle transportation with motor based transportation. As a bicycle rider of 8000 miles per year I have seen and can vouch for the calming effects that a well defined bicycle infrastructure provides. Studies in cities such as New York, Portland, Davis all report that bicycle infrastructure not only reduces crashes involving bicycles but oddly, autos as well.
