How Many More Lives Before Mangalore Gets Safe Roads?

How Many More Lives Before Mangalore Gets Safe Roads?
The Issue
Mangalore is bleeding on its roads. Every day, thousands of us travel to work, school, or home on roads that are riddled with potholes, craters, and broken patches. What should be safe pathways for our daily lives have turned into death traps.
On 9th September 2025, tragedy struck once again. A woman, riding her scooter, lost balance after hitting a pothole. Before she could recover, a fish truck ran over her. She died instantly — yet another life cruelly stolen by something so preventable. This is not the first case. It won’t be the last, unless something changes.
Families have been shattered, children have been orphaned, and countless people have been injured — all because our roads are not maintained. These deaths are not “accidents.” They are the direct result of negligence, apathy, and lack of accountability.
Potholes are not just an inconvenience. They are killers. They:
- Throw riders off balance, especially two-wheelers.
- Force dangerous swerves in traffic, putting everyone at risk.
- Cause damage to vehicles that can lead to further accidents.
- Become invisible at night and during rains, doubling the danger.
How many more funerals will Mangalore see before something is done? How many more lives must be lost before authorities wake up?
We, the citizens of Mangalore, demand action:
- Immediate repair and resurfacing of pothole-ridden stretches across the city.
- A clear accountability mechanism — officials and contractors must be held responsible for poor quality work.
- A permanent road safety and monitoring system, not just quick fixes before festivals or VIP visits.
- Transparency in the use of taxpayer money allocated for road works.
Mangalore deserves better. Our loved ones deserve better. Roads are not a luxury — they are a fundamental right for every citizen.
Every signature on this petition is a voice against injustice, a stand against negligence, and a call to protect lives. Together, we can create enough pressure to make sure authorities can no longer ignore our cries.
If you ride a bike, drive a car, take a bus, or even walk these streets — this is about your safety, your family’s safety, and our city’s future.
