Currently, the Official Song of Houston is called "Houston Municipal Song". It was written in 1915. Almost nobody has heard it, and it is, to the vast majority of citizens, a historical curiosity at best.

"Tops Drop" by Fat Pat, in contrast, is a song beloved by many (and by a very diverse group of people, reflecting the very different demographics of Houston 100 years later). There are, conservatively, tens of thousands of Houstonians who can identify the song just by its opening strains.

If the primary purpose of an Official Song is to provide a rallying point for citizens, and to enhance civic pride, there is almost no better choice than "Tops Drop" by Fat Pat.
