My name is Daniel. I work with vulnerable families in the child safety sector. I am deeply concerned by Queensland's housing affordability crisis. Skyrocketing rental prices are pushing low-income families into homelessness. I am seeing children under the age of one being raised in tents.

Public housing waitlists have ballooned, and the rental crisis is showing no signs of slowing down.

This is why I am calling on the federal government to increase rent assistance payments.

The end of pandemic support payments has exacerbated the crisis. Families experiencing financial stress, mental health issues and domestic violence now find themselves unable to pay their rent.

This additional funding will reduce homelessness, allow low-income families to meet rising rental costs, as well as saving taxpayer money that would otherwise be spent on chronic homelessness and unemployment.
