Lalbagh, allow Pet Dogs back , please
The Issue
Despite being the most visible and oldest park in Bangalore, regretfully this beautiful park has shut its gates to pet dogs in 2013. The other large public park , Cubbon Park has stood up for its pets & successfully countered this ban. A petition and a public outcry quickly caused the original plan to ban dogs to be quickly withdrawn and thankfully , there is at least one green and opens free space for our pets to exercise and play in . Bangalore is a compassionate & pet loving city . With limited facilities for pets, and the laws of the land as well as Animal Welfare Board of India notifications , supporting freedom for usage of parks for pets, Lalbagh should be responsive and kind enough reconsider its decision and allow pets back.we can understand that the comfort and safety of its users and walker SB is paramount but we are happy to co collaborate ensure this has our full support.
However, given sensitivity of other users, and the environment , we fully support that rules should be strict on leashing dogs and picking up pet poop. There should be strict fines on this , so that there is no negative effect or problems to others . Dog lovers will be happy to self regulate to ensure the park aesthetics & cleanliness , as well as park standards are kept up.
Our constitution enshrines compassion to animals, so Lalbagh Horticulture Gardens, please- what are you waiting for?
