• Diwali, the annual festival of lights and celebration of the victory of good over evil, is the most auspicious holiday celebrated by millions of Hindus across the world. In Hopewell Valley, the demographic of Diwali-celebrating students is increasing at a significant rate. 

• Our argument, which has been made by parents, staff, and students in the district, is that students of certain faiths are recognized by the school system while others are excluded. We believe that students and their families who practice Hinduism deserve equality in order for the school system to be truly inclusive, progressive, and culturally responsive.

• We have worked with both faculty and students in lobbying our district to have Diwali recognized as an official holiday for Hindus on the school calendar. If you and your family believe that Hinduism is important and should be recognized by the school district, please sign your name on this petition to have Diwali recognized as an official school holiday.
