Petitioners. As many of you know the Ontario government has announced a $60 million strategy to improve declining math scores. Since the curriculum, texts and pedagogy are not going to change, Ontario elementary students will simply get more of the same. Over the last few days, the media has paid considerable attention to Liz Sandal's announcement and its implications. Influential media, social media and thousands of parents are speaking out against the current "discovery" approach. At this time, it is crucial to speak up on behalf of our children and for all Ontario children. Many citizens believe that they will not be listened to and that they are powerless in the face of government decisions. Not true. Our history teaches us the opposite; change is often slow, but does come. When my children face difficult times, I encourage them to think, to politely speak up and to not give up. My words to them are important, but they must see me act. I ask each of you to act also. Encourage, nag, insist that one or two of your family, friends, neighbours, sign this petition today. Today, no excuses. Thousands of families share your very valid concerns and don't know what to do or where to turn. Unfortunately, your to-do-list has just grown.
