Sophia Theofilaktidis, fondly known as Yiayia Sophia, was more than just a resident of the Junction in Old Toronto. She was the heart and soul of our community and a loving grandmother not just to her family, but to every neighbour lucky enough to know her. Since the 1970s, our grandmother Sophia cared deeply for the laneway behind her home and for each person who walked through it. Her immense love and dedication to this place were evident in her daily acts of kindness, in her tireless efforts to keep the neighbourhood clean, and in the meals she lovingly shared with anyone in need. She left an indelible mark that deserves to be commemorated.

Naming the laneway "Yiayia Sophia Lane" will serve as a perpetual reminder of the love and generosity that defined her. We implore our neighbours, friends, and the City of Toronto to join us in recognizing the legacy of a remarkable individual who truly embodied the values that make the Junction such a unique and vibrant place.
