Petition Title: Honoring Joe Paterno: Restore the Statue and Rename Beaver Stadium
To the esteemed members of the Penn State Board of Trustees, and President Neeli Bendapudi,
We, the undersigned, respectfully submit this petition urging the Penn State Board of Trustees and President Neeli Bendapudi to honor the legacy of the late Joe Paterno, a beloved figure in Penn State's history, by restoring his statue on campus and renaming Beaver Stadium to "Beaver Stadium Paterno Field”
Joe Paterno dedicated over five decades of his life to Penn State University, serving as the head football coach for 46 years. Under his leadership, Penn State's football program achieved unparalleled success, but more importantly, Paterno instilled values of integrity, discipline, and academic excellence in his players and the entire Penn State community.
Iis undeniable that Joe Paterno's contributions to Penn State and college football are significant and enduring. He remains an iconic figure who has left an indelible mark on the university and its students, alumni, and fans.
Restoring the statue of Joe Paterno and renaming Beaver Stadium as "Paterno Field at Beaver Stadium" would serve as a fitting tribute to his legacy and contributions to Penn State. It would not only honor his accomplishments but also provide an opportunity for healing and reconciliation within the Penn State community.
We understand that this decision may be met with differing opinions, but we believe that it is time to recognize and celebrate Joe Paterno's positive impact on Penn State University. By restoring his statue and renaming Beaver Stadium, we can honor his memory while also preserving the rich history and tradition of Penn State football.
We respectfully request that the Penn State Board of Trustees and President Neeli Bendapudi consider our petition and take the necessary steps to honor Joe Paterno's legacy in a meaningful and lasting way.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Peter Kretschmer
