Yesterday my family made history. We were the first family in the LVMPD to not have any executive staff at my husband’s memorial. I was heartbroken & devastated to find this out. My husband served 21 years & the message was clear - no one at "the brass" cared about his service or sacrifice probably because I dared to tell the truth in the media a few weeks ago. The Las Vegas Metro Honor Guard did show up for us & did a beautiful job at the service. My PEAP officers were so attentive & caring.
And then something wonderful happened. I asked Governor Steve Sisolak to be there for us & he told me he would be honored to present me that flag. He attended the service in it’s entirety even arriving early & greeting my family at the flag line out front. He brought me flowers.
There was a tremendous amount of empathy & kindness in the Governor's eyes when he presented me my husband’s flag. When he spoke to me in that moment I knew this was in no way about politics. He has a loving, gentle heart evidenced by the way he treated my family & guests today. He is a human being first & then a politician. I am a police wife. My husband shared with me how they know someone is not telling the truth. Governor Sisolak is genuine to his core. He’s a very busy man & he supported us today when my husband’s own Sheriff didn’t care enough to be there. He has an incredible heart for first responders.
I am grateful to the LVRJ & the Las Vegas Sun for taking these very telling photos. This says more about the character of Sheriff Joe Lombardo then I ever could in any interview. He punished my grieving family again
Please feel free to share this post & thank you for loving our family.
