It is our 3rd Fathers Day in South Australia and we continue to sit in an ambiguous position over our legal parenting rights to our sons Joshi and Dilly. South Australia will not recognise overseas adoptions by same sex couples, they will for heterosexuals. So this means we are not granted the same rights as others. Simply because we are a loving, happy, stable same sex headed family. The discrimination in VIC and QLD has recently ended - and yet 6 years down the track in South Australia we still have no bold announcement as to the date for change. Time has run out. Blue, Joshi, Dilly and I ask you to email the Minister for Education and Child Development - Susan Close - and ask 1. Why things are taking so long ? 2. When will the SA Adoption act be amended to 'allow' same sex couples equal rights under the law, 3. Why are foreign adoptions by same sex couples not equal under SA law ?
