All metro corridors commissioned after Line 1—including Metro Lines 2A and 7 (Andheri–Gundavali) and the underground Metro Line 3 (Aarey–Cuffe Parade)—are equipped with PSDs.

Officials declined to clarify whether the installation of PSDs has been deferred until the full commissioning of Metro Line 9 and the Line 7A extension between Gundavali and the T1 airport.

PSDs are regarded as a critical safety feature in high-density metro systems as they prevent accidental falls, trespassing, and suicide attempts, while also helping regulate crowd movement during peak hours.

In their absence, Line 9 stations will rely on conventional safety measures such as platform markings, signage, and surveillance.

Across India, PSDs are operational on Chennai Metro's underground stations, select Delhi Metro lines including Yellow, Pink, Magenta, and Airport Express, Noida Metro, and Kolkata Metro's Line 2, with plans to expand their use in cities such as Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur.
