The 13.5-km Mumbai Metro 9 corridor, which connects Dahisar (East) and Mira-Bhayander, is being built in two phases. In the first phase, a 4.97-km section between Dahisar (East) and Kashigaon will commence trials from 14th May 2025. According to officials, if all inspections and trial runs go as planned, the first phase of this Metro line is likely to open to the public by the end of this year.

The metro line is expected to ease road traffic and offer faster, eco-friendly transportation to residents in Thane district.

The Mumbai Metro Red Line 9 is Thane district’s first-ever Metro rail which would operate till Mira Road. It is metro line is an extension of Red Line 7 from Andheri-Dahisar to Mira-Bhayandar. It will enable a direct Metro link from Andheri (WEH) to Kashimira in the first phase and extend up to Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium, Bhayandar (West), in the second phase.

Last week, the MMRDA issued an advisory urging citizens to exercise caution along the Metro Line 9 corridor (Dahisar to Kashigaon) as it planned to energize the Metro’s 25,000v overhead traction wires on May 10 along a 4.973-km stretch. This energization will be followed by full-scale dynamic testing of the trains, including trials of critical systems like train movement, signaling, communication, and safety protocols, in preparation for public commissioning.

Kashimira station, a key hub on the route, lies just 1.4 km from Mira Road suburban station, offering improved last-mile connectivity for commuters in the western suburbs.
