We are the Pro Life committee of St Bernard's parish in Homer Glen, IL.  We are seeking community support for a proclamation to designate Homer Township as a Sanctuary Township for Life.

HOMER TOWNSHIP INTENDS TO BE A SANCTUARY TOWNSHIP FOR LIFE

PROCLAMATION MISSION STATEMENT:

• To act courageously in publicly affirming the Township’s belief in the respect of life in all forms and at all stages.
• To use the available communications platforms of Township government to declare a Pro-Life message that is supported by the Township citizens and religious organizations of all denominations.

WHEREAS, Homer Township avows the following Core Values:

               Concern for the Environment:  To preserve a rural atmosphere and to protect the environment as essential to the character and appearance of Homer Township, and protect the health and well being of Homer Township citizens.

               Manage Growth Density:  To protect the quality of life in the Township by responsibly managing growth.

               A Sense of Community:  To promote and encourage participation by all Township citizens, ensuring that the concerns of all are represented and respected, in order that the citizens benefit from a safe and family-oriented community, and

WHEREAS, the scientific community overwhelmingly agrees that human life begins at conception (see Footnote 1), and

WHEREAS, the core values of Homer Township promote the health, well being and quality of life of all residents. 

WHEREAS, the residents and authorities of Homer Township believe in the sanctity of life from the moment of conception until natural death, and realize that we have a solemn and legal responsibility to protect the health and welfare of all residents of Homer Township.

NOW THEREFORE, The Homer Township Board declares its opposition to, and stand against, the inhuman acts of abortion and infanticide as such acts clearly violate the Township's Core Values.  Thus, the Homer Township Board designates Homer Township as a SANCTUARY TOWNSHIP FOR LIFE, wherein abortion and infanticide are incompatible with human life.

ADDITIONALLY, the Homer Township Board proclaims the month of October as “Protecting Life Month”.  The Board further intends to pursue, subject to existing law, a legal ordinance prohibiting abortion and infanticide in the Township.
