Holding Cumberland on Patrol Accountable — and Demanding Action

Holding Cumberland on Patrol Accountable — and Demanding Action

The Issue

For years, local social media pages such as Cumberland on Patrol and Cumberland on Patrol Raw have shared real-time emergency and public safety content under the banner of community awareness. What began as surface-level information has grown into something that increasingly causes real harm.

Private citizens have been subjected to speculation, slanderous claims, and public judgment before facts are known. Sensitive tragedies have been shared in ways that spread misinformation and invite harmful commentary. Public resources and emergency events have been turned into content without clear ethical standards, and the people at the center of these incidents are the ones who carry the consequences.

Freedom of speech is one of our most important rights, but there is no freedom from the consequences of how that speech affects real people in our community.

This is not about silencing anyone. It is about accountability, accuracy, and basic human dignity. Our community deserves responsible reporting that informs without exploiting, and awareness that does not come at the expense of the people it claims to serve.
