We were informed this week via The Trevor Project staff and Insight Global that there will be layoffs happening to start July 2, 2023, due to Vibrant Emotional Health's cutting and reallocation of funding for LGBTQ+ youth support for 988 services.
Over half (~200) of 988 counselors, both lifeline, and digital, have lost their jobs, and many more were informed that their jobs were no longer available during the last cohort of training for 988 staff, given only 30 minutes of notice.
This is all happening during Pride month when trans folks, in particular, need these resources more than ever. The majority of 988 staff are in the LGBTQ+ community and this news has caused many internal crises. Counselors are expected to keep silent while continuing job duties and functions as if their jobs have not been threatened.
We are holding Vibrant Emotional Health accountable for cutting our jobs and cutting resources for LGBTQ+ youth. We are asking Vibrant to give back the government funding to The Trevor Project and to add additional staff so that research and data can continue for this marginalized group. The other centers where the funds have been sent are not LGBTQ+ competent and have not received the proper training needed to properly support and keep our community safe.
The Trevor Project has been supporting LGBTQ+ youth since 1998 and has been contributing to the data collection of said marginalized groups for additional support through government funding. If you view LGBTQ+ youth statistics online, the majority of the data comes directly from The Trevor Project.
Sign this petition to hold Vibrant Emotional Health accountable for these job losses and to reverse the funding reallocation so that The Trevor Project can continue its vital 988 services. We are also demanding severance pay from Vibrant Emotional Health, Insight Global and The Trevor Project for all, if any, time lost within the process of retaining these positions.
