Hold the government accountable for the housing and economic crisis in Canada

The Issue

Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled,

WHEREAS

We urge recognition that housing and cost of living is a fundamental human right. Access to safe, affordable, and secure housing ans economic stability must be upheld, as it is enshrined in various international human rights instruments, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, to which Canada is a signatory.

We call upon our leaders to recognize the urgency of this situation and to implement effective solutions that uphold the dignity and the rights of all citizens. We stand at a critical juncture as the Canadian housing crisis escalates to unprecedented levels.

This situation poses serious threats to the fundamental rights of individuals, including their rights to life, liberty, and security of the person, as guaranteed by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

We call for accountability and a public apology: Canadians impacted by the housing and economic crisis deserve recognition for the suffering and systemic neglect they have faced. We urge the government to acknowledge its responsibility in addressing the escalating crisis. It is imperative that a unified, non-partisan commitment is made to effectively end the housing crisis.

We, the undersigned Citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the House of Commons in Parliament assembled to:

Publicly Acknowledge Housing and affordable living as a Human Right: Officially recognize and enshrine the right to adequate housing and economic stability within Canada’s legislative framework to ensure every Canadian has access to safe and affordable housing, regardless of socioeconomic status.

Issue a Public Apology: Acknowledge all parties failure to secure this right for all Canadians and issue a public apology to all Canadians for the rights of liberty, life, and security to which they all have infringed upon, and a public apology is demanded.

Create a National Housing and affordable living Strategy with Concrete Targets: Develop and implement a clear, actionable plan to ensure that every Canadian has access to adequate housing and effective cost of living got everyone within the next 2 to 5 years.

Come up with an action plan to lower inflation and costs of living for all Canadians.
